Adam Soch, Reza Abdoh: Theater Visionary, video, 104min., 2015
Reza Abdoh (1963-1995) was an Iranian-born American director and playwright known for large-scale, experimental theatrical productions like Bogeyman and Tight White Right. A prolific artist, Abdoh died of AIDS in 1995 at the age of 32, having created an impressive body of stage spectacles known for their sensory overload, ferocious energy and hallucinatory dreamscapes. Twenty years after Reza Abdoh's passing, his company members, collaborators, friends and family have come together to create a film that will share his legacy; his groundbreaking work and his visionary, theatrical genius.
Directed by Abdoh's long-time friend and collaborator, filmmaker Adam Soch, this feature-length documentary provides a window into Abdoh, his company, his creative process and his elaborate productions by incorporating incredible live performance footage and interviews with those who were there.
Join the filmmaker and original members of Abdoh’s company, Dar A Luz, for a discussion around the visionaries’ singular approaches to performance and theater.
