Dirty Looks NYC presents escape from witch mountain - short video work by two rarely screened, exciting new voices of experimental queer cinema. Thunksa Pansittivorakul is a Thai filmmaker whose work responds to strict censorship laws in his country, pushing the boundaries of sexual representation and political dissent. Aimee Goguen works in Hi8 video and experimental animation, orchestrating short, psychosexual situations amongst her young social circle. The results are fecund, fleeting rituals of the disaffected and perverse.
Thunska Pansittivorakul has screened work in over 100 film festivals, internationally. Born in Bangkok, Pansittivorakul worked as a columnist for a broad variety of publications, including Thai: Film Quarterly and Bioscope before his second documentary feature, Happy Berry (2004) won the Grand Prize at the 4th Taiwan International Documentary Festival. His following film, This Area Is Under Quarantine (2008) was censored on account of the recent Thai Film Act passing in a highly charged political period following a 2006 military coup. This inspired the director to become more overtly political in the films that followed – Reincarnate, The Terrorists and Pansittivorakul’s first fiction film, Supernatural, which received its international premiere at the Berlin Film Festival.
Aimee Goguen is a video artist and experimental animator who received her BFA from CalArts. Over the past five years, Goguen’s work has screened internationally at venues like Redcat, Anthology Film Archives, ONE Gallery, Night and Periwinkle Cinema, in addition to numerous stints at the Druid Underground Film Festival. She has performed in video work by Harry Dodge and provided animated sequences for William S. Burroughs: A Man Within (2010).
