Jarman’s lyrical work of super 8 mythopoeia combines UK punk culture, gay eroticism, magick ritual, industrial landscapes and Shakespearian sonnets, orated by Dame Judi Dench. Featuring a moody soundtrack recorded early in the output of esoteric musick legends, Coil (Jhonn Balance + Peter Christopherson). Jarman described THE ANGELIC CONVERSATION as, ‘a dream world… of magic and ritual.’ British temporalities fold in on themselves in this pining convergence of classical poetry and skinhead iconoclasm. It’s a poncey, jagged arthouse fever dream through an England of financial instability, gay sex magick and queer cultural emergence.
